Travel to the Netherlands and on to Groningen

Via Groningen airport Eelde (GRQ)

Groningen airport Eelde (GRQ) is the closest airport to Groningen.

 

From GRQ to Groningen station

  • By bus: you can take bus 100 which stops at the entrance of the airport. It takes ~40 minutes to get to Groningen train station. Tickets (~€3,50) are available in the bus.
  • By taxi: It takes 15 minutes by taxi to get to Groningen train station.

 

Via Schiphol airport (AMS)

Schiphol airport (AMS) is the airport in the vicinity of Amsterdam, from which you can reach Groningen by train (~2 hours).

 

The train station at Schiphol airport is located in the same building as the airport. After exiting customs, follow signs to the trains and you will arrive in the station hall. There is a machine for buying train tickets in the baggage-collection area and at the station area. A ticket will cost around €26 (single way, 2nd class).

There are two trains you can take from Schiphol airport to Groningen (both take 2 hours and 9 minutes):

  1. at hh:04 – this is a direct train from Schiphol airport to Groningen;
  2. at hh:34 – you will need to change in Zwolle (after about 70 minutes), but the change is easy as you only need to go to the other side of the platform. Unless there are unforeseen delays, the train to Groningen will be waiting there already. You will see many people going straight across the platform to make this change!

From Groningen train station:

  • on foot: walking from Groningen train station to the MartiniPlaza takes 15 minutes. Click here for the route.
  • by bus: you can take bus 10 from the station in the direction of Hoornsemeer and get out at bus stop Martini Plaza. This trip takes 10 minutes.

By car:

Parking availabilitiy is opposite the main entrance.

Participants are, therefore, advised to arrange appropriate insurance cover. This should extend not only to travel but also to cancellation costs.
